Salient achievements:

Dr. V.Balamurugan has been instrumental for development of live attenuated thermo-adapted vaccine for PPR and developed several PCR technologies for field application for diagnosis of animal diseases. He worked on development of prophylactics and molecular based rapid diagnostics for PPR and animal pox viruses apart from molecular epidemiology (characterization) of field isolates of PPR virus and animal pox viruses namely capripox, buffalopox, camelpox and orf viruses I have impeccable credentials in the production and quality control of PPR vaccine and diagnostic kits. I have also involved for development of combined and triple vaccine for animal viral diseases as single vaccination facilitates greater convenience in the mass immunization in the control programme and can bring down the cost of vaccination as well as reduce stress to the animal. further, his present area of research include epidemiology of PPR in livestock and estimation of economic impact of this disease in India and monitoring of the leptospirosis in animals and human.
